Privacy Policy — Keep on

Overview

Keep on is a Chrome extension that helps you stay focused by detecting when you visit distracting websites during a timed session. It is built and maintained by Samuel Machado.

This extension does not collect, store remotely, or transmit any personal data. All session state and settings are stored exclusively on your device using Chrome's local storage API and are never sent anywhere.

Permissions & Why We Need Them

tabs Detects when you switch to a tab on a blacklisted site so the grace-period timer can begin.

storage Saves your session state and settings (blacklist, grace period, sound preference) locally on your device only.

alarms Manages the session countdown timer reliably, even when the service worker sleeps.

notifications Shows a native browser notification when your focus session completes.

<all_urls> Required to inject the focus overlay into any page you visit, since blacklisted sites can be any domain. No page content is read or recorded.

offscreen Plays the alarm beep from a hidden extension page instead of the visited tab, so it isn't blocked by the browser's autoplay restrictions. No audio is recorded.

Local Data Only

The extension stores the following data in chrome.storage.local on your device:

Session state — whether a session is active, when it started, its duration, and distraction counts. Settings — your blacklist, grace period, and alarm sound preference. This data is never transmitted and is cleared when you uninstall the extension.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be published at this same URL with a new effective date. Significant changes will also be noted in the extension's Chrome Web Store changelog.
